Client of the Month - Kareem Broughton
Client of the month, Kareem Broughton, is the youngest of three brothers who all started at an early age with the entrepreneurial spirit. Kareem can remember a T Shirt business he and his brothers started along with a cousin Avery started when they were just teens. His oldest brother purchased a peddlers license and during the summer months they would sell T Shirts at the different summer festivals through out the city. Then he and his brothers along with his parents started a balloon shop. Kareem and his cousin like the idea of being out and about so they would sell balloons at the beach and at different events during the summer.
Kareem attended Northern Illinois University and then finished his studies at Loyola University here in Chicago. Kareem married his high school sweetheart and they have two lovely children.
Client of the month, Kareem Broughton, is a serial entrepreneur who is a partner with 1st Regent Mortgage Funding based out of Atlanta, Georgia and has recently started a development and appraisal management company based out of Chicago, Illinois. 1st Regent is a mortgage banker that specializes in all providing loans for commercial, residential and investment properties for both purchases and refinances. Opening its doors in June of 2004, 1st Regent has amassed over 7 decades of experience within the mortgage loan industry between its President, Senior Vice President, and Company Consultants. Outside of its leadership, 1st Regent currently employs over 50 full-time workers and is looking to hire loan officers and account managers. Its on-site training class occurs once a month in the Chicago area and requires no experience in the mortgage loan industry to take part.
Kareem Broughton described the services offered as “full-service”, providing Mr. Broughton attributes the companies’ success to its focus on its external, as well as its internal clients, describing it support staff as “top-notch.” For its internal and external clients, 1st Regent has an open-door policy that allows anyone to talk to whoever they would like within the company. No more having to make it through secretaries and hoping to get on the Presidents’ schedule. With an ambitious goal of becoming one of the biggest mortgage bankers in the country over the next two years, it has already expanded into 3 offices located in Georgia, Florida, and Illinois. Despite this growth, 1st Regent has experienced some obstacles. Its two most prominent being the ability to find the right employees and getting organized as the company they envision. These obstacles have not stopped Mr. Broughton and his team from developing plans to further grow the company as far west as Alabama and as far north as Canada to encompass the Southern, Midwestern, and Eastern area of the country. Having already reached the $400-$500 million mark in annual revenue, 1st Regent hopes to reach its $1 billion goal within the next year. Located in the Bucktown/Wicker Park neighborhood at 1830 N.
